2012 Law Student Awards

Susie Morgan, former AWA Board Member, confirmed to federal court seat

Susie Morgan, nominated for a federal judgeship by President Obama last June, won Senate confirmation on March 28, 2012, to a seat on the federal district court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.  Susie will take the bench after serving as commercial litigation partner with Phelps Dunbar. AWA passed Resolution regarding court consolidation

On March 26, 2012, AWA members voted to approve this 2012 Resolution.  The Resolution supports House Bill 953 and Senate Bill 609, which aims to permanently stop implementation of earlier legislation mandating court consolidation at its current stage. As the Resolution states, the judges have been provided with a fiscal note of over $7 million to

Judge Bernadette D’Souza is the first judge of newly created Domestic Section 1 at Civil District Court. She will hear only cases involving divorce, custody, spousal support, child support, community property, paternity and civil protection orders in domestic violence cases.
